Dr. Adam Davis attended the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry, graduating in 2001. He spent five years serving as a general dentist in the US Navy. After fulfilling his active duty commitment, Dr. Davis entered the Endodontic Residency Program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He received his Certificate in Endodontics in June of 2008.

In July 2008, Dr. Davis opened Cumberland Endodontics with the goal of providing residents in the greater Nashville area with the finest endodontic care available. Cumberland Endodontics has since expanded to three locations as well as added additional doctors to the practice.

Dr. Davis was an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry for several years, providing instruction to endodontic residents. His love for teaching is what started his relationship with Sonendo, doing lectures around the United States about GentleWave Technology and teaching a clinical and didactic course at his office in Tennessee for endodontists to learn both the clinical side of adopting the GentleWave Procedure into an endodontic practice as well as the operational, in relation to scheduling and treatment specifics.

Dr. Ryan Facer earned his dental degree and specialty training from the University of Iowa, where he graduated with high distinction. He also received a bachelor’s degree in medical biology from the University of Utah.

Published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Endodontics and the Journal of Dental Research, Dr. Facer’s research interests range from sealer coverage, bacteriophage therapy, roentgen therapy and adult stem cells, with an emphasis on bone biology and dental trauma.

Dr. Facer pursues new and innovative ways for treating and curing dental caries, pulpal diseases, apical periodontitis and bone regeneration. Dr. Facer continues to teach locally and nationally and has actively maintained private practice since 2005.

Dr. Facer is co-founder of Greater Endodontics in Murray, UT, where he currently practices.

Shimon Friedman, D.M.D.
Shimon Friedman, D.M.D.

Dr. Shimon Friedman received his D.M.D. degree in 1975 and Certificate in Endodontics in 1983 from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where he taught for 17 years. He is board-certified in endodontics in Israel and served as Chairman of the Israel Endodontic Society from 1985 to 1988.

In 1992, Dr. Friedman was appointed Head of Endodontics at the University of Toronto, a position he held for 20 years, and in 1993 established Canada’s first graduate endodontics program, where he served as program director for 22 years until stepping down in 2015. Under his leadership, the M.S.c. Endodontics Program at the University of Toronto has gained international recognition for its excellence.

Dr. Friedman has published 149 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, 14 textbook chapters and many research abstracts and has presented over 330 national and international lectures, as well as served on the editorial boards of major endodontic journals.

Dr. Friedman is an award-winning clinician, researcher and educator. His awards include a 2003 Medal of Merit from the City of Paris, 2006 L. I. Grossman Award from the French Endodontic Society, 2008 Louis I. Grossman Award from the American Association of Endodontists for “cumulative publication of significant research studies that have made an extraordinary contribution to endodontology,” 2013 W.W. Wood Award from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry for excellence in dental education, 2014 Award of Distinction from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto, 2018 I. B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award from the American Association of Endodontists for “demonstrated excellence through selfless commitment to full-time educational pursuits and … instilling in students the desire to pursue excellence in their careers” and 2019 Life Membership in the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Fraternity Tau Tau Chapter.

Dr. Markus Haapasalo is the professor and chair of the Division of Endodontics at UBC, Vancouver, Canada. He is the former head of the Department of Oral Biological and Medical Sciences.

Dr. Haapasalo has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific peer-reviewed articles and written chapters in several endodontic textbooks. 

Dr. Haapasalo is the editor-in-chief of Endodontic Topics and an editorial board member of the International Endodontic Journal. In endodontics, his areas of special interest include instrumentation, biofilms, irrigation, persistent infections and resorptions. In addition, Dr. Haapasalo has received several teaching awards and is an eminent speaker at many international conferences.

Dr. Eric Herbranson has more than 40 years of experience in clinical endodontics, teaching and image production since graduating with an M.S. from Loma Linda University. Dr. Herbranson is a co-founder and the chairman of the board for eHuman, where he developed the unique processes and methodology for capturing images of human and dental anatomy now used as the basis for eHuman’s 3DTooth Atlas, TMJ Occlusion Atlas and other products.

Dr. Herbranson has long been a thought leader in endodontics, on dentin preservation and maintaining the natural anatomy of the tooth, which closely aligns with Sonendo’s mission of Saving Teeth Through Sound Science® Technology. He is actively involved in speaking and education at both universities and conferences on subjects that include: incorporating new technologies into dentistry, surgical microscope photography and endodontic techniques related, but not limited, to dentin preservation.

Dr. John Khademi received his DDS from the University of California San Francisco. He received his Certificate in Endodontics and did his MS on Digital Imaging at the University of Iowa. He is currently in full-time private practice and an adjunct assistant professor at Saint Louis University. He is a former associate clinical professor in the Department of Maxillofacial Imaging at University of Southern California and previously wrote software for laboratory automation, instrument control and digital imaging.

Dr. Khademi lectures internationally about probability & statistics, EBM/EBD, CBCT, clinical trial design, outcomes, over-diagnosis and over-treatment and conventional endodontic technique. As a Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) member for 30 years, his background in medical radiology allows him a perspective shared by very few dental professionals. He has contributed to many sections and chapters in textbooks and is the lead author for Quintessence’s Advanced CBCT for Endodontics: Technical Considerations, Perception, and Decision-Making.

Dr. Asgeir Sigurdsson is the chair of the Department of Endodontics at the New York University College of Dentistry. He is also an adjunct associate professor at UNC, honorary clinical teacher in endodontology; UCL Eastman Dental Institute, London UK; and honorary clinical associate professor in the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. He is also the director of the American Board of Endodontics.

Dr. Sigurdsson has authored and co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles and 19 textbook chapters.

Dr. Sigurdsson is currently on the editorial board of the International Endodontic Journal and Dental Traumatologia. His focus lies on the topics of pain, pain modulation, endodontics, dental trauma and/or forensic sciences. Dr. Sigurdsson has been invited over 160 times to give lectures, in 44 countries all over the world.

Dr. James Smith, Jr.

Dr. Smith is a native of Bessemer, Alabama, and has more than 35 years of experience in clinical endodontics. After graduating from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1980, where he was a ‘walk on’ football player for Coach Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant, Dr. Smith pursued his Certificate in Endodontics at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry and the Birmingham V.A., completing his training in 1982.

Since graduating with his Certificate in Endodontics, Dr. Smith has continued his endodontic training with many years of continuing dental education, including specialized training in microsurgical endodontic techniques with Dr. Gary Carr (father of the dental operating microscope) in San Diego, CA. Dr. Smith was one of the first two endodontists in the state of Alabama to use the dental operating microscope while performing root canal treatment and periradicular surgery, and since 1995, he has performed more than 21,000 procedures using the microscope.

Dr. Smith is the co-author of a clinical research paper published in the Journal of Endodontics in November 2014, and he lectures across the country about endodontics and, most recently, the GentleWave® Procedure.

Nigel Pitts
Nigel Pitts, B.D.S., Ph.D., F.F.P.H., F.R.S.E.

Dr. Nigel Pitts graduated in dentistry from the University of London and moved to the University of Hong Kong in the 1980s to help set up a new dental school. He then returned to the UK to take up the Directorship role of the Dental Health Services Research Unit at the University of Dundee, where he also served as Dean of Dentistry. He moved back to London and returned to the King’s College London Dental Institute in January 2013.

Dr. Pitts has authored over 220 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 chapters, books and equivalent publications. He additionally holds an elected fellowship from the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK), as well as other fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and of Edinburgh, the Faculty of Public Health and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. These fellowships are indicative of an unusually broad career involvement spanning science, clinical practice, technology transfer and public health.

Dr. Pitts has been awarded research prizes from the FDI World Dental Federation, the British Dental Association Research Foundation and the European Organization for Caries Research. He’s also been the recipient of two Distinguished Scientist Awards from the International Association for Dental Research.

Currently, Dr. Pitts is the chair of the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future and the chair of the ICDAS Foundation, which coordinates the International Caries Classification and Management System and CariesCare International. He also works with a number of research and professional organizations, as well as companies seeking to improve dentistry, oral health and health.
